Peak City International Film Festival Take 2
Returns to Apex
Apex, NC – 23 March 2016 – The Peak City International Film Festival – Take 2 is rebooting, Saturday, April, 2, 2016, to become an annual premier film festival in historic downtown Apex, North Carolina. The number one place to live in the country according to Money Magazine and CNN. The town that stands out, has a festival that stands out, too. The Festival is already unique in that it presents the Charlie Gaddy, Lifetime Achievement Award to persons of integrity, Ira David Wood, III, stands ready to receive his Gaddy! The Festival also looks for films that are suitable for general audiences. This year is no exception featuring films from around the world and from the Old North State. An original feature film from North Carolina will screen April 2. Entries and winners are from all over the world.
“The first year’s festival, Take 1, honored retired WRAL TV and News Anchor and man of the highest integrity Charlie Gaddy by creating and naming the lifetime achievement award in Gaddy’s honor, and presenting the first award to Jerry Mathers, of “Leave it to Beaver” fame a true member of the arts community of TV.” said John M. Demers, Executive Producer of the event. “This year’s recipient of the Charlie Gaddy, Lifetime Achievement award is the undeniably talented and iconic Ira David Wood, III. I was thrilled with the committee’s nomination of David,” said Demers. “My first encounter with David Wood was at Stage 73, which was 1973, in what is now known as Theatre in The Park. I was just becoming a teenager, and David was opening the magic of theatre to another generation of actors and bringing the body of his original works and the noted adaptation of “A Christmas Carol” to life for more than one generation. His accomplishment in so many of the arts disciplines are too numerous to mention, and he truly gives of himself to many of the people in his life” The Peak City International Festival is pleased to announce Ira David Wood, III will be in attendance and arrive by motorcade the evening of Saturday, April, 2, at approximately 6:30 PM, details to be posted on the Facebook page for the festival.
This year’s festival has quite the lineup for the juried portion of the competition in the film festival, some of which are set to screen at The Halle Cultural Arts Center in Historic Downtown Apex, North Carolina. The Red Carpet arrivals will begin approximately 6:!5 PM Dignitaries, Filmmakers, Actors will arrive by motorcade, riding with the Tarwheel A’s Model A Club of the Triangle, led by the Apex Police Department with their award winning artwork designs on their patrol cars. The feature film screening this year, is set to release in theatres in a just a few short weeks. The film, Union Bound, the civil war era produced right here in North Carolina by Uptone Pictures.
Films arrived from around the world for judging, here is a list of countries, Canada, France, Australia, China, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Cuba, The United Kingdom, Greece, India, New Zealand, and The United States of America. Winners of this year’s festival will be international as well.
“Some of these are message films, meaning they have something to say, beyond entertainment,” said Tim Bell, one of the Producers of the event and a local filmmaker. “We often miss the point of the so-called Motion Picture Association of America ‘G’ rating, assuming it means a children’s show. Many extremely entertaining stories can be told for the enjoyment of everyone. But some really are to make us think.” Show technical director Konrad Arnold, notes that “The festival is again this year capturing or filming, the production for a highlights playback on line and on a local broadcast TV station.”
Sponsors have been a big part of the festival and we are pleased with the reboot to have the Town of Apex, and The Halle Cultural Arts Center as Executive Producer level sponsors. Many sponsors have made this event possible including, The Apex Chamber of Commerce, Living Arts College, the Holiday Inn Express in Apex, Sony Creative Software, the Apex Arts Council, the Apex Downtown Business Association, Adobe, and Cheerwine, The Official Beverage of the festival and the Estate of Rex Demers.
Saturday, April 2, the Festival will hold a “Ticketed Black Tie Formal Gala” awards show, at The Halle Cultural Arts Center in historic downtown Apex, a rare event in itself in “Hollywood style” with red carpet, motorcades, ladies and men dressed to impress, cameras with social media everywhere and cameras recording the event for a highlights broadcast on local TV. The red carpet opens at 6:15 PM, and all outside events are free. The first motorcade should arrive at approximately 6:30 PM. Guests should be in their seats by 7:00 pm. The evening will begin with introductions from town officials and a reading of the proclamation from the Town of Apex’s Mayor, The Honorable Lance Olive. Then the Charlie Gaddy Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Ira David Wood, III, before the screening of the films.
There are a limited number of free tickets and you may get to the Eventbrite ticketing page at the Facebook Page for the festival, listed at the bottom of this media release for more information on how to attend, but you must have a ticket.
