Job Location: Office location in downtown Apex, NC
The Apex Chamber of Commerce is seeking a self-motivated and relationship-driven professional to join our team. In this leadership role, you will spend approximately 75% of your time growing the Chamber’s membership base and revenue through strategic business development. The remaining 25% will be spent overseeing part-time staff and ensuring internal operations run smoothly.
We’re looking for someone with strong interpersonal and organizational skills—someone who brings positive energy, thrives on building relationships, and understands how to “connect the dots” to help people and businesses succeed.
Membership & Business Development Key Responsibilities (75% of time)
- Develop and execute a year‑round recruitment and retention plan that meets or exceeds annual membership‑growth goals.
- Identify prospects through market research, referrals, and participation in community events; manage the pipeline in the Chamber customer relationship management platform (ChamberMaster).
- Conduct discovery meetings and close sales for memberships, sponsorships, and advertising packages that align with Chamber value‑add (directory listings, events, advocacy, and marketing benefits).
- Collaborate with the Ambassador team to onboard new members, retain existing members, and increase engagement at all functions.
- Track and analyze membership key performance indicators (KPIs); prepare monthly growth and revenue reports for the Executive Director and Board.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Directly supervise the Chamber staff (currently 3 part‑time staff members—Event and Communication Specialist, Volunteer Relationship Coordinator, and Administrative Assistant), providing coaching, scheduling, and regular performance feedback to ensure a collaborative, high‑service work environment.
- Coordinate office workflow, member inquiries, financial processes and event scheduling in partnership with the Executive Director.
- Assist with budgeting, vendor management, and resource planning.
- Review financial reports related to events; recommend strategies to maximize impact and efficiency.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director on trends, member feedback, and community insights to continuously improve programming and member value.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Sales & Relationship‑Building Expertise – 3+ years in B2B sales, fundraising, or membership development with a strong track record of measurable results.
- Supervisory & Operations Experience – Proven ability to manage small teams and coordinate office or program operations.
- Communication & Presentation Skills – Confident engaging with diverse audiences and representing the Chamber in both formal and casual settings.
- Tech Proficiency – Comfortable using customer relationship management platforms (ChamberMaster), MS Office/Google Workspace, and email/marketing tools.
- Community Knowledge: Familiarity with (or eagerness to learn) the Apex/Triangle business and civic landscape.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Nonprofit/Event Experience: Experience working in nonprofit, volunteer, or event-driven environments.
- Flexible Availability: Ability to be available to attend functions and programs before, during and after regular office hours.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with strong goal orientation.
- High emotional intelligence and people skills; able to work with varied personalities.
